Ten words to sum up your working life to date ...

Eight books in print in 20 languages … wow, that’s cool!

Nine things you can see from where you're sitting ...

UK paperback of Spilled Blood (winner of Best Novel in the 2013 Thriller Awards)
Poster from the Port of Duluth (where the Stride novels take place)
Wedding photo from 29 years ago (wow, we look young)
Sony voice recorder (I use it to take notes when I’m scouting locales for the books)
Map of the rural town of Shawano in Wisconsin (new Stride novella takes place there)
Printed manuscript of my new novel with my wife’s editorial Post-It notes on it (oh my God, how many are there?)
My iPhone (can’t live without it)
Oxford Dictionary of American Usage and Style (my bible)
Painting of Door County, Wisconsin (where The Bone House took place)

Eight minutes to prepare a meal. What's it going to be ?

Grilled cheese sandwiches. Loved ‘em as a kid. Still do.

Seven people you'd like to go for a drink with ...

We have some dear friends all over the world we rarely get a chance to see. I’d take any seven of them and head for the nearest pub.

Six things you can't live without ...

My wife, our three cats … there’s really nothing else I can’t live without.

Five favourite words ...

“I love your new book!”

Four places you'd run away to ...

Bath, England (two of our best friends in the world live there)
Door County, Wisconsin (hanging out among lighthouses and lakes)
Tampa, Florida (seaside paradise)
Any little alley in London (it’s our favourite city anywhere in the world)

Three books you've bought recently ...

Yann Martel’s Life of Pi
Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book
Brian Freeman’s Stalked (It’s true! I realized I had no UK hardcover of Stalked for my own collection, so I had to buy one for myself!!)

Two things that make you rant ...

Oh, life’s too short to rant. Have a glass of wine and calm down.

One thing you'd tell your teenage self ...

You’ll get there.
